John J. Burns

Massapequa Parks

Overview

John J. Burns Park is one of Massapequa's more well-known parks, as it is a popular venue for organized sports programs throughout Long Island and even New York State. Commonly referred to as Burns Park, this park offers a field or court for just about every sport and includes multiple fields for many sports. Most of the fields here have been converted from grass into turf over the years which now makes Burns Park Massapequa one of Long Islands Best.

One of the more well-known fields at this park is the Joe Gillespie football field, also known as home to the Massapequa Mustangs Team. This is the outstanding local Massapequa Football program for ages 8-13 with an excellent track record over the years. During the offseason, the Massapequa Mustangs football field is used other sports such as Lacrosse and Soccer. Massapequa High School Football hosts football practices under the lights of this field when it gets dark out early late in the season. In addition, Massapequa Lacrosse would practice here before turning the Massapequa High School field.

The other fields in John J. Burns park host organized events for kids of all ages for just about every sport. The abundance of courts available allows for people together with friends to play different sports. Popular options are basketball and handball because the Town of Oyster bay is generous enough to keep the lights on until 11 PM in the summer months.

This Massapequa Park also features a track that surrounds a majority of its fields for people to walk, run, rollerblade, or bike. It is another great option if you don't want to go all the way to the Massapequa Preserve. Be careful when turning the back baseball field during a Massapequa Coast Little League game, you don't want to get hit with a Home Run!
