Neil Diamond

Neil Diamond is an American singer, songwriter, and actor who was born in Brooklyn, New York. Throughout his youth, he would spend time in Massapequa and visit Long Island’s South Shore Beaches before later moving to the town of Massapequa as an adult.

Neil Diamond is one of the best selling musicians of all time, selling over 100 million records worldwide in addition to having No. 1 singles on the Hot 100 and Adult Contemporary charts.

The Neil Diamond Massapequa House

In the 1960s, Neil Diamond and first wife Jayne Posner would make Massapequa their home, where they lived in a house on Frankel Road in the Biltmore Shores neighborhood.

Neil Diamond Spouse’s father operated a menswear shop in the old Bar Harbour Shopping Center in the town of Massapequa as well.

To this day the Neil Diamond Massapequa property is largely the same as it was when he lived there. Like many other houses in its neighborhood, it is a one and half story house with a loft-style second floor that contains additional bedrooms.

The former Neil Diamond Massapequa home also features a wood-burning fireplace and a fully finished basement, which is where he would do his composing while he lived there.

Fun Fact: there is rumored to be a piano in the house that was built by Neil Diamond himself but it is too large to be removed from the house, so it remains there today.

According to his former neighbors in the Massapequa Community, the Diamonds were reported to keep to themselves while living in Massapequa. The neighbors said that when they did see Neil outside on one of his routine leisurely walks, that he would always be clenching his notepad to write down song lyrics as soon as he got an idea.

Sweet Caroline Lyrics Meaning

The 1969 hit song “Sweet Caroline” is one of Neil Diamond’s most well-known songs and is still popular to this day. The release of the song led many people to ask who “Caroline” was, a question that became more popular as the song grew in popularity.

Many people assumed it was a past girlfriend or grade school crush, as Neil Diamond was never in a public relationship with a woman named Caroline.

You may have heard rumors after a  2007 interview where Diamond states the song was written for Caroline Kennedy, daughter of former president John F Kennedy.

Although this still may be partially true, it was later revealed by Neil Diamond himself in a 2014 interview on the Today Show that the song was written for his wife at the time named Marcia, but couldn’t make her name rhyme within the Sweet Caroline lyrics.

He went on to say that it only took him one hour both to write the Sweet Caroline Lyrics and compose the entire song while he was in a hotel in the city of Memphis.

The Will Ferrell Neil Diamond Impression

Will Ferrell is one of the most popular Saturday Night Live guests, and his portrayal of Neil Diamond was no different. Common occurrences throughout the skits were jokes about the origin of popular Neil Diamond songs.

For example, in one joke Ferrell refers to the song “Coming to America” being written because of Diamond’s hatred for immigrants.

Unfortunately, full skits are hard to find on the internet. However, it seems like bits and pieces of the full episodes are still able to be found on Youtube and Dailymotion
