The recently completed bulkhead replacement at John J. Burns Town Park not only enhances the park’s infrastructure but also delivered unexpected savings for taxpayers.
Initially slated for completion by October 30, 2024, the project encountered delays due to the addition of floating docks at the boat ramp, pushing the final completion date to January 29, 2025. Despite these adjustments, the overall cost came in lower than expected. Originally contracted at $5.63 million, the final expenditure totaled $5.2 million, resulting in a cost reduction of $428,424.45.
During its March 10 meeting, the Oyster Bay Town Board unanimously approved the final payment to Chesterfield Associates, officially closing out the project.
Town Supervisor Joseph Saladino praised the outcome, highlighting both its efficiency and long-term benefits. “We made sure to consider environmental factors and used top-quality materials to maximize durability,” he stated. “This bulkhead is built to last longer than previous ones, and the fact that we finished under budget by nearly half a million dollars shows our commitment to smart, responsible spending.”
